Course Information

The AST 2 program is about travelling in real avalanche terrain & making decisions about how to move through that terrain. You will discover new concepts about how to handle terrain based on real time conditions and employ strategies that minimize you and your group’s exposure to avalanche hazard.

One of the other objectives of the Level 2 is to elevate your comprehension of snowpack and weather conditions and how these variables intercept with terrain and snowpack. Our goal is to help you have a better understanding of what snowpack tests are available to you to use and which ones are the most useful at the right time based on the types of avalanche problems you are dealing with.

We will also show you how to maximize the information on the public avalanche bulletin to quickly discern the issues in the snowpack as well as the main hazards. We will also show you how the weather impacts the snowpack in the short term and how to play the long game with snowpack and current conditions.
